Specialty Caribbean Expo 2017
Specialty Caribbean Expo will run for four days from February 23 – 26, 2017 at the Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. - Always consult the Plant Quarantine/Produce Inspection Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture for information on the requirements for obtaining the Phyto-Sanitary Certificate to export ornamental horticultural products.
- Consult the Bureau of Standards for information on standards, specifications for the product to be exported and recommendations on suitable packaging materials.
- Obtain advice from packaging companies regarding the appropriate packaging for your product(s)

Q. What are the common documents used in preparing an export entry?
A. The common documents for any export entry are as follows:
a. Commercial Invoice
A commercial invoice is a bill for the goods purchased from the seller to the buyer. These invoices are often used by Customs to determine the true value of the good(s) when assessing their duties. The invoice contains information such as name of exporter (seller), name of importer (buyer), invoice number, terms of sale, terms of payment, currency of settlement, quantity, product description, unit price, total price, package marks, signature, etc.[/column]

b. Pro Forma Invoice
A Pro Forma Invoice is an invoice prepared by the exporter (seller) before shipping the good(s) to inform the importer (buyer) of the good(s) to be sent, their value, and other key specifications. It also can be used as an offering of sale or price quotation.
c. Export Packing List
An Export Packing List lists seller, buyer, shipper, invoice number, date of shipment, mode of transport, carrier, and itemizes quantity, description, the type of package (i.e. a box, crate, drum, or carton), the quantity of packages, total net and gross weight (in kilograms), package marks, and dimensions, if appropriate. Both commercial stationers and freight forwarders carry packing list forms. A packing list may serve as a conforming document and is not a substitute for a commercial invoice.
d. Airway Bill
An Airway Bill is a Transportation document used for all air freight shipments. It serves as a receipt of goods by the airline/carrier and a contract of carriage between the shipper and the carrier. The document is shipper-specific (i.e.Fed-Ex, UPS, DHL, etc.), and includes the following information: description of goods, quantity, applicable charges, weight/volume, airway bill number, conditions of carriage that define the carrier’s limits of liability and claims procedures, etc. Airway bills are
e. Bill of Lading
A Bill of Lading is a transportation document issued by a carrier as a contract between the owner of the goods and the carrier. It serves as a receipt for cargo accepted for transportation and must be presented for delivery at the destination. The document contains specific information such as: consignor’s and consignee’s name, names of the ports of departure and destination, name of the vessel, dates of departure and arrival, itemized list of goods being transported with number of packages and kind of packaging, marks and numbers on the packages, weight and/or volume of the cargo and freight rate and amount.[/column]
