Naomie “Ngozi” Grandison is this rare kind of artiste whose brand is instantly understood. Hers is a serene and earthy presence that conveys a sense and a celebration of self. Ngozi is her art and her art is her heart – for soul truths that elevate. She is a vibrant, inspirational and dynamic singer, songwriter, musician, poet and motivational speaker whose keen passion for people, for art and music is evident in the projects she champions. Ngozi’s message exudes her heightened social consciousness and empathy, qualities shaped in the crucible of her life’s experiences and her work as a qualified health care professional.

She co-founded the Wellness Innovators’ “I am Beautiful” school campaign to elevate self-esteem and self-worth among the island’s youth, through secondary school speaking and performance sessions that address issues of adolescent health. Naomie’s song “I am Beautiful” was a significant component of the campaign, with a message that encourages everyone to see and embrace what is beautiful within. The campaign won the National Youth Council ‘Esteem Award’ in 2012.

Naomie was also a catalyst for the creation of Headphunk a performance arts showcase. The popular bi-monthly event featured an open mic for musicians and poets and forged a fertile ground of creativity within the art community.

Naomie’s musical talents are diverse. She weaves her soul truths in neo-soul, alternative, reggae and calypso genres. She won the 2014 Inter-Commercial House Calypso competition with her song titled “Turning Point”, which highlighted the plight of persons with substance abuse issues. She released her EP album, “Selections” in 2013. The album features six tracks which reflect Naomie’s introspective nature and depth of connection with God, nature, self, emotion and people.

Her messages and her music shed some light on her adoption of her stage name – Ngozi, – which aptly means “blessing”, because she sees her gift of music and an innate wisdom about life as a gift and a blessing to be shared.

Song writing is as therapeutic for the artiste as it is inspirational for her audiences. Her most meaningful measure of success is the extent to which her lyrics, themes and music connect with her audiences.

She credits her growth as an artiste to her sojourning experiences alongside Ken Hardy and Soul Dreadz, Afrolyrix, Headphunk Collective and Fourtress – and is striving to expand that network across the globe.
