Customs Brokers and Customs Clerks get refresher course on Harmonised System of Classification

The Saint Lucia Trade Export Promotion Agency (TEPA) through its Export Facilitation work programme component provided assistance to the Saint Lucia Customs Brokers Association through an initiative geared toward building the capacity of customs brokers and customs clerks in Vieux Fort and its environs.HS-codes

This first workshop took place on Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, South Campus, with a subsequent scheduled for Saturday, September 13th, 2014 at the same venue.

The training provides participants with a thorough understanding of the 2007 Harmonise System (HS) of Classification and by extension classification of goods for exports and imports. The workshop will cover the following subject areas:

  1. What is the Classification?
  2. What is the Harmonised System of Classification?
  3. The structure of the Harmonised System
  4. Advantage of a Harmonised System
  5. Description of the Harmonised coding scheme
  6. The Rules governing classification
  7. The distinction between Legal and Reference Notes
  8. Samples and examples of classifications of goods
