Communications Officer

Export Saint Lucia invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Communications Officer.

General Description 

Export Saint Lucia is a statutory corporation, established under the Trade Export Promotion Agency (Amendment) Act No. 8 of 2019 and operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce, International Trade, Investment, Enterprise Development and Consumer Affairs, in Saint Lucia.

As the lead agency mandated to spearhead the island’s National Export Development effort, its overall objective is to increase aggregate volume and value of exports of both goods and services from Saint Lucia to the rest of the world.

Export Saint Lucia’s programmes are designed to increase exposure of Saint Lucia products and services in the global market and to promote the national image or brand by providing information, counsel and marketing services to exporters looking to expand into external markets.

 

 

 

Responsibilities 

This job is designed to allow the Person Engaged to gain valuable experience, assisting with, and as required, undertaking the roles and responsibilities of Communications Officer as they participate directly in daily Agency operations.

The Person Engaged will learn how Export Saint Lucia operates in an international context, gain in-depth knowledge of its functions, to deliver simple and effective communiqué as directed by the Agency.  They will be required to:

 

Conceive and conduct a major Communications campaign which would include but not be limited to:

  • Accentuating the mandate of the Agency,
  • Accentuating the successes of the Agency,
  • Accentuating all other relevant attributes which would keep Export Saint Lucia top of mind on all trade related matters.

 

Coordinating the requisite Communications for the Agency:

  • Develop communication plans and collate and analyse media coverage.
  • Conduct periodical workshops on various aspects of communications for staff.
  • Prepare Press Releases and news articles for publications as required.
  • Organising events, including press conferences, exhibitions, press tours and open days where community relations can be fostered.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Agency and the media houses not limited to responding to communication related enquiries via telephone and email.
  • Prepare the Agency’s newsletter publications and monthly reports of communication activities undertaken.
  • Assist with the production of brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films, and multimedia programmes.
  • Conduct or prepare the Agency’s staff for media interviews.
  • Manage, develop graphics and update information on the Agency’s website, social media pages such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, engaging with users on these platforms.
  • Assist with developing communication strategies for specific initiatives and projects.
  • Manage the communications aspect of a potential crisis.
  • Perform all other job-related duties assigned by the CEO.

 

The Candidate

Technical Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong record of academic achievement, including (but not limited to) Media Relations or Communications or Business.
  • Strong knowledge of broadcast, affiliate relations, digital and social media.
  • Experience working in the media or engaging with media houses would be an asset.

  • Solid computer proficiency, high level of proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Excel / PowerPoint in particular.

  • Strong initiative, adaptability, and flexibility, with the ability to work with ambiguity, multi-task and set priorities.
  • Excellent public speaker.
  • Well-developed interpersonal communications and representational skills, and qualities including the ability to represent Export Saint Lucia on various media platforms.
  • A high level of integrity and commitment to ethical behaviour.
  • Self-starter, motivated, team player with strong organizational skills.

 

Salary: Remuneration shall be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
